NEW FOR THE SUMMER EVERY SATURDAY: HACIENDA MUSIC & THE NORTHERN QUARTER

We are delighted to be launching a new walks programme in conjunction with the great people from Great Days (of Altrincham) on Saturdays this summer, starting on Saturday 25 May.

In the morning at 11am we will be running our ever-popular music tour – Manchester Music: The Hacienda Years from HOME. The tour takes in the Boardwalk, Hacienda, Ritz, Fagin’s, the record shop where Morrissey worked and the Free Trade Hall, amongst other sites. Not only that, but we play the songs at the right place, so when we get to Bootle Street police station Happy Mondays’ “God’s Cop” is aired and explained, and when we get to the Temple of Convenience, Elbow’s “hole in my neighbourhood”, we play their “Grounds for Divorce”. You go home desperate to play The Fall’s entire oeuvre.

In the afternoon at 2.30pm it’s “Secrets of the Northern Quarter” from the Queen Victoria statue in Piccadilly Gardens. Manchester’s chic, boho, unbearably hip enclave full of cheesy retro outlets, hi-tech bars, downhome curry cafes, preserved weavers’ cottages, West Side Story-ish warehouses, the last remaining back-to-backs (I’m not saying where; you’ll have to come on the walk), the settings from Life on Mars, Affleck’s of courseYou don’t go straight home; you stay out all night.
