The Irish got the worst deal in early industrial Manchester: slum houses, abuse, discrimination and harassment, but the old Irish ghetto of Little Ireland, with its imposing mills and smoking chimneys, later attracted some of the greatest stories and characters, such as Robert Owen, Friedrich Engels and George Orwell, who had plenty to say about the place, as did Gandhi about the iniquities of the cotton trade.
This is a new tour through one of the most exciting locales in Manchester with Ed Glinert, author of the forthcoming epic tome, Manchester: The Biography, journeying into the very heart of historical Manchester.
