Churchill 2The greatest Englishman of the 20th century or an egomaniac who should be vilified for using poison gas on the Iraqis?

A champion of democracy and decency? The main bulwark against the Nazi psychopaths? Or simply a reactionary who opposed giving women the vote?

Winston Churchill remains a legend, honoured as a freeman of Manchester, and, whatever his faults, was the main force behind the allied victory of 1945.

Manchester, briefly, was his city, his realm, his England. We revisit his haunts and habitats.

* A walk to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death.
