A circular stroll through the heart of oldest Salford and newest Manchester – from the King’s Head on Bloom Street, now run by Paul Heaton of Housemartins and Beautiful South fame – along Chapel Street; into Greengate, condemned by communism pioneer Friedrich Engels in his infamous 1844 work, “The Condition of the Working Class”; to the glass-and-granite 21st century city epitomised by the new Civil Justice Centre; the site of the prison where some of the last public hangings in British history took place; to the towers designed by the world’s most famous architect, Norman Foster.
The locale is soaked in history from mediaeval times to today – as New Manchester Walks will unveil on this mesmerising walk.
