In honour of “We Love Gorton” Day, Ed Glinert will be delivering an eye-opening, fact-filled effortlessly witty tribute to the world’s first industrial city (keep quiet there, Birmingham) from east Manchester, the one-time industrial heartland of the city.

Planes, trains, automobiles, cotton threshing machines, motor bikes, coal – the talk will cover all this and more. Here in Manchester we made some of the first luxury cars (Rolls Royce, Imperial cars), dug Britain’s first canal, created the world’s first railway and built Britain’s most beautiful cotton mill.

By the time it’s finished you’ll be writing that letter to the government urging the re-opening of the local coal mines!
